A ceiling-mounted pulley system that stores 2 bikes overhead with zero floor space
Visit Saris →The Saris CycleGlider is a ceiling-mounted pulley system that lets you store two bikes up and out of the way, completely freeing up floor and wall space. Made by Saris — a well-respected Wisconsin-based bike rack company with decades of experience — the CycleGlider uses a 4-point pulley system with smooth-rolling wheels that glide along a steel track mounted to your ceiling joists. We installed the CycleGlider in a garage with 9-foot ceilings and tested it with a road bike and a mountain bike over two months. The lifting mechanism uses a rope and pulley system with a locking cam — pull the rope to lift, release the rope and it locks automatically. Lowering is just as easy: pull down slightly, release the cam, and lower smoothly. The whole system feels well-engineered and solid, and Saris backs it with a lifetime warranty, which is unheard of in this category.
The CycleGlider stores bikes completely overhead, using only ceiling space. That means your entire garage floor and walls stay clear for cars, tools, and other storage — perfect for crowded garages where every square foot counts.
Unlike fixed pulley systems, the CycleGlider runs along a 7-foot steel track, so you can slide your bikes forward and backward along the ceiling. This makes it easy to access one bike without disturbing the other, and lets you position them exactly where you want.
The 4:1 mechanical advantage pulley system makes lifting heavy bikes feel easy, and the cam-style lock automatically engages when you stop pulling. Just pull to lift, release to lock — no fumbling with knots or latches.
Saris backs the CycleGlider with a limited lifetime warranty on the frame and a 2-year warranty on moving parts. That is the best warranty we have seen on any bike storage system and speaks to the company's confidence in their build quality.

Saris recommends a minimum ceiling height of 8.5 feet for the CycleGlider. With 8.5-foot ceilings, a standard road bike will hang with about 1 foot of clearance from the floor when fully lowered, and sit flush against the ceiling when fully raised. For ceilings higher than 12 feet, you may need to purchase an extension rope kit from Saris.
Installation is moderately difficult and takes about 2-3 hours. The hardest part is locating and marking ceiling joists, then lifting the 7-foot steel track into position and securing it with lag bolts. You will need a drill, stud finder, level, and a ladder. We recommend having a second person help you hold the track in place while you fasten it.
Only if your e-bike weighs 50 lbs or less, which rules out most e-bikes (typical e-bikes weigh 45-70 lbs). The total system capacity is 100 lbs, so you could theoretically store one 50 lb e-bike and one lighter bike. For heavier e-bikes, we recommend a floor rack or heavy-duty wall mount instead.
Thanks to the 4:1 mechanical advantage, lifting a 30 lb bike feels like lifting about 7-8 lbs — most people can do it easily with one hand. The cam lock holds the bike securely at any height, so you can lift it in stages if needed. Lowering is even easier: just pull down slightly to release the cam and control the descent.
The Saris CycleGlider is the best ceiling bike storage system we have tested. At $229, it is not cheap, but what you get is a well-engineered solution from a reputable US brand that completely frees up your garage floor — and that is invaluable if you have a crowded garage. The smooth-gliding track is a nice upgrade over fixed ceiling hoists, the 4:1 pulley makes lifting easy, and the lifetime warranty is genuinely impressive. Installation is more involved than wall-mounted racks, and you do need adequate ceiling height, but if those conditions are met, the CycleGlider is the most space-efficient bike storage option on the market.
