Contactless payments on your finger — no battery, no charging, ever
Visit McLear →The McLear RingPay takes a fundamentally different approach to smart rings than the health-focused competition. Instead of packing in sensors and requiring frequent charging, RingPay is first and foremost a contactless payment device — a Visa-certified payment ring that lets you tap to pay anywhere that accepts contactless cards. The biggest differentiator? It requires no battery whatsoever, using NFC technology to power itself from the payment terminal's signal during transactions. After using it for a month across grocery stores, coffee shops, gas stations, and public transit, we found the payment experience to be genuinely convenient and surprisingly reliable. The ring is built from zirconia ceramic — the same material used in luxury watches — giving it a substantial, high-quality feel while remaining scratch-resistant and completely waterproof. Available in three finish options (black, white, and rose gold) and sizes 5 through 13, there's a fit for most hands. The tradeoff is that you get zero health tracking features — no sleep monitoring, no heart rate, no activity tracking. This is a pure payment accessory, not a health wearable.
Certified for use with Visa debit and credit cards at millions of locations worldwide. Simply tap your finger on the payment terminal and you're done — no phone, no wallet, no fumbling required. Works anywhere contactless payments are accepted.
Unlike every other smart ring on the market, RingPay needs no battery at all. It harvests energy from the payment terminal's NFC field during transactions, so it always works. No charging dock, no dead battery surprises, no subscription needed.
Made from high-density zirconia ceramic — the same premium material found in luxury watch cases and dental crowns. It's harder than stainless steel, completely scratch-proof in everyday use, and fully waterproof up to 50 meters.
Uses the same EMV chip technology as contactless credit cards, with tokenization that keeps your actual card number hidden from merchants. If you lose the ring, you can freeze it instantly from the RingPay app without affecting your actual bank card.

McLear RingPay uses passive NFC technology — the same tech that powers contactless credit cards. When you tap the ring on a payment terminal, the terminal's NFC field generates a tiny electrical current in the ring's antenna, which powers the embedded chip just long enough to complete the transaction. It's the same principle that lets contactless cards work without batteries.
Currently, RingPay works with Visa debit and credit cards from most major banks in the US, UK, EU, and Australia. Mastercard support was announced for late 2026. You link your existing card through the RingPay app — the ring doesn't replace your card, it just mirrors it for contactless payments.
If your ring is lost or stolen, you can immediately freeze it from the RingPay mobile app, rendering it useless for payments. Your actual bank card is completely unaffected — the ring uses tokenized card numbers, so your real card details are never exposed. You can then order a replacement ring and transfer your payment profile to the new one.
Absolutely. Zirconia ceramic is extremely hard — it measures 8.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness, compared to stainless steel at 5.5-6. This means it won't scratch from keys, coins, or everyday wear and tear. It's also fully waterproof, so you can swim, shower, and wash dishes without taking it off. The only thing to watch out for is dropping it on a hard surface — ceramic can crack or shatter if subjected to a sharp impact.
The McLear RingPay fills a unique niche in the smart ring market as a pure payment accessory — no health tracking, no battery, no subscription. If you're someone who constantly fumbles for their phone or wallet at checkout, or you want a backup payment method for when you don't have your phone on you (at the gym, the beach, on a run), it's genuinely useful. The ceramic build feels premium and will last forever without scratching. Just don't buy it expecting health features — there are none. For the right buyer who values convenience over tracking, it's a solid purchase in 2026.
